Michael has been a Director of Photography in Los Angeles and New York shooting commercials, television and scripted film for more than 25 years. His expertise in lighting and shot design started as an assistant camera for Cinematographer’s such as Wally Pfister (ASC/Academy Award Winner), Phedon Papamichael (ASC) , and James Chressanthis (ASC). As a DP, he started shooting commercials and easily moved on to television and film.
As the Director of Photography of ‘Criss Angel Mindfreak,’ Michael shot weekly stunts and illusions with as many as 16 cameras under very difficult circumstances, with no rehearsal and only one chance to get the shot. He excels at working under pressure with narrow time windows. Michael has extensive experience in shooting green screen as well as live action. He has worked with top actors and athletes, and is known for both his report and professionalism.
Michael’s biggest strength is his love for the art and culture of film – things sometimes lost on those who only arrived during the digital age. Michael shot 35mm film for years before modern HD productions. This is an expertise that cannot be taught. It’s just one of the things that separates Michael from his peers.
